Is brain surgery overrated?

I'm tired of hearing that things "aren't exactly brain surgery."

I just read an article which had alot of great information to share and ended by encouraging people to call a professional "for important things like brain surgery, parachutes and pool construction." I thought it was great because people are always saying that whatever they are discussing "isn't exactly brain surgery" which is, I think, an overused cliche'.

OK so maybe brain surgery is really difficult and really important. The point is not to demean brain surgery at all. Instead what I am getting at is that there are alot of really important jobs out there that, if done incorrectly, can cause serious problems.

And maybe they won't cause you to die or have brain damage but business setbacks, financial losses and personal agony are good reasons to find someone as skilled as a brain surgeon to do your next important job.

Consider these examples - websites and swimming pools.

Websites seem simple enough. Lots of people build them in their spare time or as a "side job" for extra income. You can even build one yourself if you have the technical knowledge or can find a template builder program at Yahoo or GoDaddy (just to name a few).

But if you want your website to be found on search engines like Google or Yahoo, or you want to really impress your visitors with graphics or professional design, or if you want to market your site to potential clients - than hiring a professional to do the job makes sense.

Its the same thing with swimming pools. The process seems pretty straightforward - that is until you try it with someone who isn't well qualified. There are many things that can go wrong and any of them can cost you a fortune with a mistake. Experience and technical skill are very important to get the job done properly and without causing emotional trauma that may lead to brain surgery later!

So while you clearly do not need to be a rocket scientist, or brain surgeon, to build a website, a swimming pool, a house or many other things - having a qualified professional do the job for you can save you serious time, agony and ultimately money.
