Local search - can you find your OWN business online?

Posted by Andre' Savoie on Dec 17, 2009 8:37:00 AM

We just finished a conference call about local search and this has caused me to reflect about the Louisiana phenomenon...the fact that technology related things that are old hat in alot of places but just coming around here.

Most of you probably know what I'm talking about....

One of these things I find people are just coming around to here is the "local search." Local search meaning people searching for things locally like a plumber or a pool company.

So the question of the day is - are you still a phone book user or do you go to the Internet first? If you are under the age of 50 chances are you go to the web first.

But even my 50+ year old neighbor admits that he is looking for things online now. And better yet - he realizes that people who are looking for what he sells are searching online instead of going to the paper.

Can people find you when they search for your business?

The best test for finding out how well your website is doing is to simply sit down and type in something a typical customer might search. For instance "pool builder Mandeville, LA." And the bottom line is that if your site doesn't show up either in the local listings or the regular search results you need help.

Because at the end of the day if potential customers aren't finding you they are finding someone else.

The good news is that many companies are really just starting to try and figure out what they can do to get higher on a search for their business. Don't get left behind...call us today 504-669-3207 and ask about our "local listings" service and see what happens if new customers can actually find you online.
